When finishing a basement, I always think about radon first since it's a silent gas that can seep through cracks in the foundation. Installing a proper vent pipe that runs from below the concrete slab up through the roof gives the gas a way to escape outside. A good seal on the floor and walls too, with a dedicated fan system if the levels are high, ensures the air down there stays safe to breathe.
