Installing gutters along the grapevine seemed just savvy - the runoff could water the roots while the vine's canopy would shade the system from excess heat. But I soon found the grapevine's vigorous growth would quickly engulf the gutters, clogging them with leaves and tendrils. The constant maintenance of clearing debris and trimming back the vine made me reconsider the whole idea. Next time, I'll keep my gutters far from the grapevine and simply run a soaker hose for irrigation.
