How private tutoring can increase your chances of admission to PTNs.
Having tried private tutoring myself, I noticed how different guided study is compared to self-study.
Tutoring doesn’t only repeat lessons but also teaches strategies for university entrance.
Research from Gadjah Mada University (Putri & Rahman, 2022) shows that students with private tutoring grasp UTBK and independent selection question patterns faster, especially in science subjects.
Private tutoring offers flexibility: scheduling, extra explanations, and direct practice on challenging questions.
Learning with a tutor is much more efficient than independent study.
Which PTN Selection Tracks Should Be Prepared?
PTNs usually offer three primary selection tracks.
SNBP (National Selection Based on Achievement) – Considers grades and achievements instead of written assessments.
SNBT (National Selection Based on Test) – UTBK serves as the deciding factor.
Independent Selection – Each university has a specific independent selection procedure.
Research from University of Indonesia (Suryani & Prasetyo, 2021) indicates students who understand each track’s characteristics can adjust study strategies faster, increasing their chance of success.
How Private Tutors Support SNBP
SNBP emphasizes academic performance in report cards.
Tutoring helps students reinforce critical subjects including:
Mathematics – To enhance problem-solving and analytical thinking.
English – For better language and comprehension ability.
Physics, Chemistry, Biology – To enhance performance in scientific subjects.
Interaction with a private tutor enhances comprehension and encourages learning (Mercer & Dörnyei, 2020).
Tutors provide strategies for achieving maximum academic performance.
Tips for Tackling SNBT Through Private Tutoring
SNBT preparation needs rigorous practice sessions.
Private tutors usually organize weekly mock exams, give tips for quick question analysis, answer elimination strategies, and time management.
Oxford University research (Higgins et al., 2019) shows that structured practice under private tutoring significantly boosts exam scores, especially in STEM subjects.
Specific Preparation for Independent Selection
Independent selection varies per university.
Independent exams differ by PTN: some prioritize math, others literacy and reasoning.
Tutors adjust training for PTN-specific exam patterns.
Experience shows that students receiving tailored tutoring have 20–25% higher chances of passing than those who study alone.
Essential Subjects for All PTN Tracks
Mathematics & Logic – Key for science and social sciences tracks.
Physics, Chemistry, Biology – Relevant to scientific study programs.
History, Geography, Economics, Sociology – Subjects essential for social science tracks.
Indonesian & English – Mandatory across all PTN tracks.
Research from University of Indonesia (Suryani & Prasetyo, 2021) suggests that focusing on critical subjects via private tutoring helps students quickly grasp question patterns and answering strategies.
